Smart Gilas Pilipinas vs Korea for 3rd spot, 2011 FIBA Asia Championship

The Philippines' Smart Gilas has lost its chance to play in the 26th FIBA Asia Championship (2011) finals when it failed to win vs Jordan's Al Nashama during the semi-finals held Saturday, September 24, 2011, in Wuhan, China.

Smart Gilas was leading by only a point during the first half of the game (27-28) and both teams scored big points during the 2nd half, but it was Jordan who scored bigtime, with 14 points more than the Smart Gilas (75-61).

Jordan's top scorers were Rasheim Wright (24 pts), Osama Daghles (16 pts) and Zaid Ahmed Abbas (14 pts) while the Philippines' only had Marcus Douthit (21 pts) and Joseph Evans "JV" Casio (15 pts) scoring big for the team.

Marcus Douthit is still the over-all top scorer in the 26th FIBA Asia Championship, now having a total of 170 points, followed by Jordan's Rasheim Wright with 147 points.

It's interesting to note that it was the 2nd time that Smart Gilas and Jordan faced each other in the 2011 FIBA Asia Championship.

The first was last September 19 during the 2nd Round of the tournament with Smart Gilas as winner (72-64).

Jordan now heads to the 26th FIBA Asia Championship finals vs China which will be held Sunday, September 25, 2011, at 8PM.

It will be Jordan's first time to play in the finals of FIBA Asia while it will already be China's 14th time.

The Philippines' Smart Gilas will now just battle for 3rd spot vs Korea (bronze medal game) also happening Sunday, at 3:30PM.

Also taking place Sunday are the battle for 5th spot between Iran and Lebanon, and the 7th slot game between Chinese Taipei and Japan.

Iran was the champion during the 25th FIBA Asia Championship (2009) but it has to settle for just 5th or 6th slot in this year's tournament.
